AHAB: A HOCKEY STORY
A bombshell debut novel that tells the story of Corporal Will Foley, a young Army paratrooper who loses his foot after an ill-fated jump. Like Cap’n Ahab, Will must fight to regain his old life. He finds safe harbor at the rink, and a high-tech prosthetic allows him to skate again. The question is, is it enough?
This remarkable yarn grew out of Brad Huestis’s love of hockey, soldiers, and storytelling. As powerful as a slap shot and as intense as a bench-clearing brawl, it is told from the heart and goes far beyond being a gritty hockey adventure by confronting tough issues head-on, forcing Will Foley to come to terms with himself, his girlfriend, and his hard-boiled father.
The settings—Grafenwöhr’s iconic water tower, Munich’s legendary Oktoberfest, and Germany’s raucous hockey arenas—are accurately and vividly portrayed. Readers who fell for the brutal honesty of Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk will appreciate the unflinching description of Army life, while puck-heads who liked the food, fun, and excitement of Playing for Pizza will revel in the colorful portrayal of Bavarian hockey, food and culture.
